Patrick McCalmont, CFA

Patrick is the President and CEO of PBY Capital since 2025. Patrick serves on the Board of Directors of PBY Capital since 2021. He joins us by way of Canso Investment Counsel Ltd. where he is the Chief Strategy and Operating Officer. There, Patrick oversees all non-investment related activities as well as contributes to the investment team as a Portfolio Manager. He was also previously in charge of Client Service and Marketing at Canso, working directly with the family office and institutional client segment. Patrick attended Queen’s University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Political Studies) in 2007. In 2009, he earned a Master of Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin specializing in International Politics. Patrick was awarded his CFA charter in 2015.

Meriem is Managing Director at PBY Capital. Her financial services experience includes sales and investment counsellor roles with CI Investments. She also worked for one of the big 5 Canadian banks and a globally-recognized insurance company. Meriem became a CFA charterholder after completing an undergraduate commerce degree at Concordia University.

Frank joined PBY Capital in November 2022 after a successful tenure at Scotiabank. During his career, he’s held roles in wealth management and financial services, gaining hands-on experience in operations, compliance, performance analytics, trading, portfolio management, business development and providing investment and advisory solutions to clients and client-facing investment professionals.

Frank holds a Master of Finance from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Commerce degree from York University and is a CFA charterholder.

Frédéric Béland, CFA

Fred Béland is the Chief Operating & Compliance Officer of PBY Capital. In his role, he oversees the firm’s regulatory compliance, operations and corporate technology initiatives. Over his 20-year career, Fred led CH&Co.’s management consulting practice for Canadian Wealth & Asset Managers, was the Chief Operations & Technology Officer for a Canadian and US subsidiary of a Swiss Private Bank, lectured at the graduate level on financial crime at the University of Sherbrooke, and managed RBC Investor & Treasury Services’ Client Solutions initiatives in Eastern Canada. Fred graduated from Université du Québec à Montréal with specialisations in finance, information systems and E-Business. He is a CFA Charter holder and a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).

Samuel Dion-Lessard, CFA

Samuel joined PBY Capital in 2021. Prior to joining the firm, he had a number of roles with one of the major Canadian Banks and gained valuable experience in Treasury and Capital Market risks. Samuel graduated from Sherbrooke University where he completed a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Science with a Market Finance concentration. He then completed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exams and was awarded the title in 2019.

Joyces joined PBY Capital in 2021 and is a Dealer Operations & Support Associate. Prior to joining the firm, she held positions at various fund administrators where she gained experience in accounting and investor relations roles. Joyces is a graduate of Ryerson University receiving her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a Major in Accounting and Minor in Business Law.

Areg joined PBY Capital in November 2023 as an Investment Associate from Burgundy Asset Management. During his tenure at Burgundy, he was part of the Institutional Group, which afforded him the opportunity to gain invaluable experience dealing with sophisticated investors and investment professionals. Areg held business consulting and corporate finance roles prior to joining Burgundy, which helped him develop an understanding of the day-to-day running of a business. Areg graduated from the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Honours and is a CFA charterholder.

Nelly is a Compliance and Operations Associate at PBY Capital. She joined PBY Capital in 2022. Prior to joining the firm, she worked as a compliance officer for an exempt market dealer in Calgary, Alberta. She also held several positions in the back-office at other investment firms. Nelly has a B.A. in accounting and Finance and a M.Sc. in Finance and Investments from the U.K.

Fanny-Claude is a Business Development Coordinator at PBY Capital, a position she has held since June 2024. Prior to joining the firm, she honed her position as a legal assistant at AlphaCCO, where she demonstrated expertise in communication, organization, coordination, legal support and administrative tasks. Fanny-Claude holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Concordia University in Montreal, where she developed a strong foundation in social sciences.

Alexandra Reda

Alexandra brings to PBY Capital a diverse background in strategic partnerships, entrepreneurship, and organizational transformation. She began her career in management consulting at KPMG Canada. She later supported several early-stage, deep-tech ventures in various functions such as operations and human capital. Alexandra went on to found and lead SaaS venture Arina Live Inc. as CEO. Most recently she provided operational and business development support to Canso Investment Counsel Ltd. and their group of affiliates. Alexandra holds a Bachelor of Commerce in International Business from Concordia University, a graduate diploma in Human Resources Management from McGill University, and a Master of Science in Organizational Effectiveness from New York University.

Sam Reda, CFA

Sam has over 40 years of investment management industry experience and expertise. He previously held board or executive-level positions with investment managers Triasima, Fiera, Natcan, and TAL. Sam serves on several boards and advisory committees of both profit and non-profit organizations, including as vice-chairman for the Concordia University Pension and Investment Committee. Sam provides strategic consulting services for investment managers and family offices through Maralex Capital, which he founded. He is also co-founder and Chairman of Alpha CCO Software, which delivers governance and compliance solutions . He established the “Séminaire sur la gestion des caisses de retraite” (in 1999) and the “Dialogue with our Leaders” series with CFA Montreal (in 2009), important annual Montreal educational events for the pension fund and wealth management industry. Sam is a CFA charterholder and obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University. He is also a graduate of the Corporate Directors Program offered by the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Rotman School of Management.
